How Vibration Affects Bearing Lubrication

Excessive bearing vibration can have the same effect as irregular regreasing of bearing contact surfaces. It typically causes the grease to be broken down into the oil and the thickener. In other words, the oil separates from the thickener. It is good practice to select greases that are suitable for vibratory conditions. Your local lubricant supplier can advise you of suitable products. Also, lubricate the bearings at short intervals, perhaps as frequently as weekly, depending on bearing size, speed and operating conditions.

Don't Delay After Oil Sampling
The moment an oil sample is taken from a machine, the sample and the oil in the reservoir begin to experience different environments. At that point, the properties of the two bodies begin to deviate from one another. The greater the period between sampling and testing, the greater this deviation will be.

Keeping Lube Pails Clean
Many companies prefer to use 5-gallon plastic buckets because oil doesn't tend to stick but flows out readily and is easy to wipe down. Others use disposable, off-the-shelf plastic liners. However, if you must use and clean stainless-steel buckets, learn the most effective methods for cleaning these containers used to transport and store oil.
